Christy machining one of two 1 3/8 inch thick spacer washers that are to be positioned immediately inboard of the gear hubs. The washers act as buffers between the gear hubs and the cross boxes, to limit the end play of the shaft to 1/8 inch in either direction, or a total of 1/4 inch total. Cost of rough bronze was about $139 each.
