The original lumber mill in Cass was built in 1902 and had a capacity of 125,000 board feet per (eleven-hour) day. This mill was destroyed by fire in 1922 and a second mill was quickly built on the site and operated until 1960. After shutting down the mill deteriorated rapidly and the rubble eventually burned.
Today the rusting remains of the machinery and some building remains are all that is left from this massive industrial complex.
