Cass was created in 1900 and is probably the best preserved company town in the country. Although there have been many changes over the years (paved streets, indoor plumbing, and the transition from a company town to a state park) the flavor of the town is still clearly evident.
Most of the buildings in Cass were constructed almost a century ago and they were not built to last. The ravages of time are clearly evident in the town, but an amazing number of the structures have been restored, or at least stabilized, by the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. Despite minimal funding the Park is continuing to preserve this unique piece of America's corporate landscape for future generations.
Cass offers walking tours of the town, self-guided and with a historic guide.
