The Climax boiler is in the Cass locomotive shop for final work before it's ready for installation. The Cass crew has been hard at work replacing lots of mounting studs, and 36 stay bolts that were behind the boiler mounting pads. Up three to five rows of stays, one can make out two groups of nine SB's that have been replaced on the right side (with a matching set on the left side, as well ).
In amidst the replaced bolts, also visible are groups of eight open holes that will be filled with the steam tight studs that will secure the mounting pads to the boiler. All the other protruding studs are for hand rail brackets, air pump brackets, and running board brackets. Photo by Rick Brigger. |
