This and the next two photos were taken from atop the stairway enclosure that leads down to the paint/car shop. Until one views the shop from this bird's-eye-view, it is not realized how many things are scattered about the shop, either being worked on, completed, or awaiting to be worked upon, and 99 percent of it is Climax locomotive related. Big revelation, huh?
In this photo, five guys are laying on, squatting around, or leaning on the tender truck. They are all figuring how long the brake rod needs to be to enable a brake shoe to be installed, yet not be too long so as to be unhandy. Matt and Lou are heating a pinion gear for installation on the gear shaft somewhat hidden behind Lou. Looking at and identifying various bits and pieces could keep a viewer occupied for quite some time. Photo by Ed or Allan Miller |
