A set of spacer halves with the ends flip-flopped from normal position. Note the differing depths of the counterbores. At first it was supposed that this was due to wear, but the old factory drawings show this condition to be correct. The bottoms of the counterbores are uneven, so an old Shay axle was turned to make a mandrel for the re-surfacing of the counterbores. Note the two longitudinal stripes: These are the only portions of the spacers bored to touch, and clamp upon the axles.
