Roughing out the 7/8 inch wide keyway in the gear shaft for the tender truck. This hogging cutter is only 3/4 inch wide. the finish cutting will be done with a smooth 7/8 inch cutter, without ridges.

The shaft is too fat to be straddled by bolts directly in the tee slots, so we made the two spreader plates, with nuts welded on, to allow the clamping studs to be placed far enough apart to clear the shaft.
